Lake District landscape photography at its most quintessentially English — drystone walls stitching impossibly green valleys, glacial fells rising over quiet water, and lakes that mirror the sky. These photographs were made over a few spring days across the central and eastern Lakes: the Langdale Pikes above Blea Tarn and the long sweep of Great Langdale, the wooded shore of Rydal Water and the slate mouth of Rydal Cave, the Kirkstone Pass road, and Ullswater seen from the fellside. Ancient stones still stand at Castlerigg, and a packhorse bridge arches a clear beck. Newborn lambs find their feet in the meadows. Late April and May are the perfect time — the fresh green at its peak, the light long and soft.
