Lofoten winter photography from the Arctic edge of Norway, where snow-capped peaks rise straight out of the sea. These images were made island-hopping the archipelago: the red rorbuer of Hamnøy and Reine beneath the sharp summits of Festhæltinden and Olstinden, the boulder-strewn beach at Uttakleiv, and long-exposure surf breaking under the mountains. Winter brings the wildlife close, too — a stoat in full white ermine, a white-tailed eagle over the snow, and kittiwakes nesting in the frame of an old village window. Between the squalls come quieter moments: a pastel dawn mirrored in a tide pool, cod drying on stockfish racks, a lone surfer in the Arctic swell. Late winter is the season for it — low, long light, fresh snow to the waterline, and skies that change by the minute.
